Conference "Migrations and regional development"
On May 18, 2022 in Opole, a conference was held on the topic of migrations and regional development, as part of 3rd Demographic Congress titled Poland of the XXI century –demographic challenges, under the honorary patronage of the President of Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda.
During the conference, the speakers touched important elements regarding the demographic situation in Opolskie Voivodship and entirety of Poland. Ethical aspects of migration and refugees as well issues related to labour market and education in the voivodship were discussed. An important issue discussed at the conference was the impact of migration on regional development.
For the first time since the end of National Population and Housing Census, results of NSP 2021 Census on migration were presented. Ms Dorota Szałtys, Director of the Department of Demographic Research discussed foreign migrations, while Ms Janina Kuźmicka, Director of Statistical Office in Opole presented a paper titled migrations in Opolskie Voivodship in statistical perspective.
The plenary sessions ended with a discussion on the topic of regional migration policy and current migration processes, including refugess from Ukraine.
The honorary guest of conference was fr. bp Andrzej Czaja, who delivered an introductory speech.
