A very interesting discussion regarding comparison of data collection methodology and statistical analysis of both countries took place in headquarters of Statistical Office in Ostrava. Common challenges that offices may encounter in their daily work were discussed, such as ensuring high-quality data and keeping data up to date.
Annual meetings contribute to improving the quality of offices’ work by exchanging knowledge and experiences as well as building partnership relations between them.

Polish-Czech webinar
Representatives of Statistical Office in Opole took part in Polish-Czech webinar titled “Cross-border cooperation between statistical offices”. The meeting was organised as part of the project “In contact – trans-border cooperation despite obstacles”
During the webinar the results of many-year cooperation of our Office with Statistical Offices in Ostrava and Olomouc as well as the office of Euroregion Pradziad (Praděd) in Prudnik.

Study visit of statisticians from Czechia
Statistical Office in Opole was visited by a six-person group of representatives of Czech Statistical Offices in Ostrava and Olomouc.
The meeting was a continuation of long-year cooperation between our Offices. Employees of Statistical Office in Opole presented guests with data from Census 2021 in the cross-section by powiats for Opolskie Voivodship. Representatives of Czech statistical offices shared their experiences regarding organisation and conducting of the census in Czech Republic. A joint publication was planned on the basis of data obtained from national censuses, which were held at the same time in both countries. The areas of activity of offices, successes but also needs related to national and international public statistics were discussed.

On the 3rd June 2019, a delegation from Statistical Office consisting of: director Janina Kuźmicka, head of the Opolski Centre for Regional Surveys Maria Mołodowicz as well as chief specialist Danuta Michoń and senior specialist Magdalena Skalik from Opolski Centre for Regional Surveys visitied Olomouc (Czechia) where a meeting with Czech Statistical Offices in Ostrava and Olomouc was organised. The aim of the meeting was to establish a further cross-border cooperation with the particular emphasis on research and analytical projects. The Polish side proposed an essay regarding functional areas operating within Opolskie Voivodship, Moravskoslezský and the Olomoucký Regions. Furthermore, arrangements were made to prepare folder on the labour market in the aspect of the conducted cohesion policy. During the meeting works related to preparing the publication “Social and economic situation of the Euroregion Pradziad” were summed up, as well as experiences regarding the current activity and organisation of key tasks of individual offices were shared.

On June 11 2018, Statistical Office in Opole hosted a delegation of representatives of Czech Statistical Offices in Ostrava and Olomouc. Employees of Statistical Offices in Ostrava and Olomouc participated in seminar organised as a part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Statistics Poland, titled “Public statistics-region-development-cooperation”, during which representatives of the Czech delegation had the opportunity to learn about the role public statistics in creating an information system in the field of monitoring and diagnosing the social and economic situation of the Opolskie Region. During the discussion panel titled “Public statistics in the face of information expectations in the region” Ms. Kamila Vepřková – Director of Statistical Office in Olomouc summarised the cooperation with Statistical Office in Opole lasting since 2004, in the field of developing and disseminating statistical information on cross-border areas. After the seminar a meeting was held during which the preliminary draft of the publication on the Euroregion Pradziad was discussed. This publication will be issued on the occasion of 20th anniversary of Euroregion’s existence and will concern social and economic situation of the Euroregion, Opolskie Voivodship as well as the Moravskoslezský and the Olomoucký Regions.

On the 7th November of 2017, the director of Statistical Office in Opole Janina Kźmicka as well as employees of Opolskie Centre for Regional Surveys participated in Ostrava (Czechia) in a meeting with representatives of Statistical Offices in Ostrava and Olomouc.
During the meeting details regarding the study dedicated to retail prices on Polish-Czech border were agreed upon. The conception of the publication dedicated to Euregion Pradziad, which is celebrating 20th anniversary of operating, was also discussed. Statistical Office in Opole proposed the initial assumptions and the scope of this study, including the genesis of the Euroregion, effects of conducted activity and analysis of social and economic situation of Euroregion in the 1997–2017 retrospection. The presented draft study received positive opinion of Czech partners.
The meeting was also an opportunity of to exchange experiences regarding current activity of Offices. The director of Statistical Office in Opole informed about celebrating 100th anniversary of Statistics Poland occurring in 2018, and the activities organised by the Office for this occasion, at the same time inviting representatives of Czech statistical offices on conference in November 2018. The meeting was held in a friendly atmosphere. Both sides expressed readiness and willingness to cooperate in developing joint publications.

As part of the continuation of regional and cross-border cooperation, Statistical Office in Opole, composed of director of Statistical Office Janina Kuźmicka and employees of the Opolskie Centre for Regional Surveys, received delegation of the representatives of Czech Statistical Offices in Ostrava and Olomouc. The meeting was attended by the newly appointed director of the Statistical Office in Ostrava Hana Gurecka, director of the Statistical Office in Olomouc Kamila Vepřková alongside employees of the information service and administration registers.
The aim of the meeting was exchanging experiences regarding current activities, as well as organisation of the key tasks of individual Offices. During the meeting, the works related to preparing the publication “Socio-economic situation in the Polish-Czech borderland in Opolskie Voivodship, the Moravskoslezský and the Olomoucký Regions published at the end of December 2016. This publication was met with a great interest among recipients of statistical data, of which media and local government units, therefore it was considered justified to continue cooperation to develop further publications.
The project of a folder prepared by Statistial Office in Opole, dedicated to tourism in borderland powiats/districts in Opolskie Voivodship, the Moravskoslezský and the Olomoucký Regions was discussed, containing information on i.a. tourist accommodation establishments as well as the number and structure of foreign tourists using these. It was established that the prepared Polish-English version of the study will be published by the Czech side in Polish-Czech version. As part of the future works regarding preparation of the folder covering the area of retail prices, thematic score and the content of comparable information were established.

As part of the contination of regional and cross-broder cooperation, on December 6 2016, delegation of The Statistical Office in Opole consisting of: director Janina Kuźmicka, head of the Opolskie Centre for Regional Surveys Maria Mołodowicz as well as chief specialist Danuta Michoń and senior specialist Elwita Kunicka from Opolskie Centre for Regional Surveys visited the Statistical Office in Olomouc, in which a meeting was organised with representatives of Czech Statistical Offices from Ostrava and Olomouc. The aim of the meeting was to make final arrangements regarding the substantive content and graphical form of jointly prepared publication titled “Socio-economic situation in the Polish-Czech borderland in Opolskie Voivodship, the Moravskoslezský and the Olomoucký Regions. During the meeting there was also a discussion regarding continuation of the cooperation and future plans. The Polish side came forward with proposed topics for further joint ventures, i.a. regarding the monitoring of cross-border services and studies on retail prices.

On June 6 this year, Statistical Office in Opole, as part of the continuation of regional and cross-border cooperation, received a delegation of representatives of Czech Statistical Offices in Ostrava and Olomouc. The meeting was attended by the director of Statistical Office in Opole Janina Kuźmicka and employees of the Opolskie Centre for Regional Surveys as well as director of Statistical Office in Ostrava Jaromir Kartous and director of Statistical Office in Olomouc Kamila Vepřková alongside employees of the information service and administration registers.
The aim of the meeting were detailed arrangements regarding the jointly prepared publication titled “Socio-economic situation in the Polish-Czech borderland in Opolskie Voivodship, the Moravskoslezský and the Olomoucký Regions”.
During the meeting a common position was developed regarding the form of publication and statistical information presented in it. Stages of preparation of the publication and deadlines for submitting data were also established. The talks also covered experiences from the offices’ operations and the implementation of the future projects within the framework of cross-border cooperation.

On 23 November 2015, delegation of Statistical Office in Opole consisting of: director Janina Kuźmicka, head of the Opolskie Centre for Regional Surveys and senior specialist Danuta Michoń paid a working visit in Statistical Office in Ostrava, where a meeting with the representatives of Statistical Offices in Ostrava and Olomouc was held.
The visit was a continuation of the long-term cooperation and its purpose was to agree on the detailed thematic scope of the publication “Socio-economic situation in the Polish-Czech borderland in Opolskie Voivodship, the Moravskoslezský and the Olomoucký Regions” and the folder on the situation of seniors in Opolskie Voivodship, the Moravskoslezský and the Olomoucký Regions.
During the meeting experiences in Offices’ operations were exchanged, the method and scope of work related to the development of publications were discussed, i.a. key data that was comparable and available to both parties was chosen, the forms of data presentation were agreed upon, the cover, title page as well as graphic part of the publication and folder were discussed.

On 28 May 2015, a delegation of representatives of Czech Statistical Offices in Ostrava and Olomouc visited Statistical Office in Opole.
During the meeting a conception of planned publication “Socio-economic situation in the Polish-Czech borderland in Opolskie Voivodship, the Moravskoslezský and the Olomoucký Regions” was agreed upon and editorial-technical arrangements were made. Moreover, during the meeting, the idea of a jointly developing a folder for Seniors in Opolskie Voivodship, the Moravskoslezský and the Olomoucký Regions was born.
Experiences in the field of Offices’ operations and methods of carrying out statistical research were also exchanged.

On 23 November 2012, the director of Statistical Office in Opole Anna Koska as well as head of the Opolskie Centre for Regional Surveys Maria Mołodowicz and head of Organisation and Registers Department Monika Bartel, participated in a meeting in Ostrava (Czechia) with representatives of Statistical Offices in Ostrava and Olomouc.
During the meeting experiences in the field of current activities of offices were exchanged, the methods of conducting National Census in 2011 in Czechia and Poland were compared, and also a concept of the publication on Euroregion Pradziad (Praděd) was established: the thematic scope and detailed scheme of the study.
